Tradition from "Fiddler on the Roof"

sung by Topol

My brother and I think we're jewish, we even have "jewish" names. Instead of Ruben Jacob (as if that weren't jewish enough already) he is now Jakov Rubenstein-Levy and I'm Rahel (or Rahelica) Leiva... yeah, I know, we're weird =P

L'Accordeoniste

by Edith Piaf

I've Been Kissed Before

performed by Rita Hayworth

My brothers don't appreciate classic films like I do so I lure them to the dark side with blonde bombshells, femme fatals, violent westerns, and deep WWII films muahahahahahaha ^_~

Early in the Morning

Peter, Paul, and Mary

One of my favorite folk groups and after watching this video I'm pretty sure you'll figure out why.

Ash Wednesday

by Elvis Perkins

Elvis Perkins is the son of Anthony Perkins (who played the "Psycho" killer with an Oedipal complex Norman Bates) who died from complications with AIDS in 1992 and Berry Benson who was killed on American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11, 2001. His mother's death and the aftermath of 9/11 helped shape this song...

Float

by Flogging Molly

more F.M.!!!!!! ^_^

High Water Mark

by Iced Earth

I'm not a huge metal fan but I have got a few metal songs in my iTunes library a few of them by Iced Earth. I like this band because several of their songs have to do with the Civil War and Revolutionary War and I'm a bit of a history nut. When I was a kid (under the age of 8) my friend Chelsea and I would pretend to be either General Lee or General Grant (I was usually Lee, not really sure why) and her dad who was a Civil War re-enactor made us wooden rifles that we would carry with us as we rode our bikes around the neighborhood trying to take hills and evade capture. I still remember being put in a Union POW camp ;-)

What's Left of the Flag

by Flogging Molly

I shook hands with all the members of the band and I have their autographs on a dollar bill and on a guitar pick ^_^
I didn't have anything for them to sign (I didn't want them to sign ME because I bathe on a regular basis and I didn't have them sign my clothes because I liked wearing what I had on and I had no intention of displaying my Flogging Molly shirt or my super comfy jeans)

Macondo

by Oscar Chavez

A song about the town Macondo from Garcia Marquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude"

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)

by The Proclaimers

Hooray for nerdy Scots!

In case you were wondering this is what walking 500 miles does to your shoes.

My sister Liz's shoes after walking all over Paris

Henry V: Passacaglia on the Death Of Falstaff

composed by Sir William Walton

I first heard this melancholy piece while watching "The War" (a Ken Burns Documentary on WWII) and it instantly tied with Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings as one of the most bittersweet pieces of music I have ever heard and it nearly always moves me to tears.

The following video is an excerpt from "The War" and if you have 30 min. to spare I highly recommend watching it.

The Battle of New Orleans

by Johnny Horton

You know those annoying TimeLife infomercials that are on TV all the time? Well thats how I first heard this song and when I found the CD (yes back in the day when people still bought CDs) I had to buy it. My bff Amanda and I used to sing this song all the time. This song also introduced me to the world of Country music, a world inhabited by the likes of Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Billy Walker, Claude King, Flatt & Scruggs, Bobby Bare, the Kingston Trio, Jimmy Dean and the Charlie Daniels Band.

I love the rain

by The Real Tuesday Weld

Well, it's the beginning of July and it's raining here in Southern California (yes, it does rain in California) and I'm loving it so here is one of my favorite songs to sing on a rainy day. enjoy!

part of this song was used in a Cherry Coke commercial!!!!!

those are raindrops, not dew drops or recycled water
from sprinklers, honest to goodness raindrops in SoCal ^_~

by Michael Leviton

I hate summer >=P ^_^

No soy de aqui, ni soy de alla

by Facundo Cabral

This song always brings an endless sea of memories from my childhood and adolescence. I clearly remember my parents listening to it when I was younger and listening to it on my own later on.

Molasses to Rum

from the musical/film "1776"

The Egg

from the musical/film 1776

I'd like to thank the Founding Fathers for creating one of my favorite holidays.
Hot dogs, refreshing drinks, red/white/blue food, getting teary eyed over Momma Look Sharp from "1776" and fireworks with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as the soundtrack, definitely right up there with Christmas and Thanksgiving ;)
