Fascinating fact about this piece's composer, Jean-Baptiste Lully: He was keeping time by banging a long staff (like in the clip above) against the floor and accidentally struck his toe, creating an abscess. Gangrene set in but Lully refused to have his toe amputated and the gangrene spread and lead to his death. Moral of the story: Wear steel-toed shoes while conducting ^_^
